Dear Pearl,
What a week it has been! Fanny's bunkmate from Camp KiddyHoppy is staying with us until Labor Day. She is charming and well brought up. But rather small for her age. She needs a phone book to sit at the table and Fanny's old toddler stool to reach the sink. But she's good natured enough and eats the crusts of sandwiches that Fanny has long disdained so they are a good pair. Melba reminds me to ask you when Louise will be returning as she is completely out of clean cups in the oiseau bleu pattern. We do miss a little organization in the kitchen when she is not here!

Dear Pearl,

The strangest coincidence, Pearl! Just two seconds before I received your letter I had been entertaining Daphne, the Doolittle's pantry maid. She'd dropped by for a chat with Louise, not realizing Louise was with you. (Tell Louise Daphne says hello and is NOT dating Jeremy Tippler anymore as his prospects for advancement have dimmed following an impromptu liquor cabinet inventory taken by none other than General Confusion himself! Jeremy is living with his mother until his hands stop shaking all the time and the fog clears a little. Louise has never approved of him and will be glad of this turn of events I'm sure) Well, dear, it seems that every household in Wiltshire - including the Doolittles - has experienced saucer losses in the last few weeks. Mostly of the Blue Willow and Blue Danube Patterns, with the occasional Plaid Salmon taken as well. You don't think that Linn Soo. . .Oh I never did like that friend of yours, Pearl. I would keep all your dishes under cover for a couple of months until this whole Wiltshire robbery story dies down.
